Swing Band aus Frankfurt für alle, die gerne bouncen

Mit ihrer 2025er Show „Take three Swing-Outs and dance a Circle for free“ bringen
The Groove Merchants aufregende Swing Musik in Konzert- und Tanzsäle.

Ihr Sound erinnert an die guten alten Zeiten der Big Bands und lässt gleichzeitig die
frischen Ideen der Arrangeure der Band erklingen. Eine Mischung aus Vintage, sehr
inspiriert von der Musik Count Basie's, mit überraschenden Wendungen und
Originalkompositionen. Entspannt, für diejenigen, die Lindy im mittleren Tempo
genießen, mit großartigen Solisten und wiederkehrenden Ausbrüchen in schnelle
Tempi und Hot Jazz.

Sechs Jazz Musiker mit Groove im Gepäck. Kommt und tanzt euren geliebten Lindy
Hop, Collegiate Shag, Balboa, Shim Sham, Jam Circle und mehr.

The Groove Merchants wurden Ende 2024 von Stefan Funk und Stefan Kreuscher
gegründet. Sie schreiben die Musik für die Band im Tandem und versuchen, die
Merchants in eine Close Position zu bringen, um den Sound zu liefern, der Lust auf
Bewegung macht. Alle Merchants verbindet eine musikalische Freundschaft aus
gemeinsamen Zeiten in kleinen Ensembles und Big Bands, die lange zurückreicht.

The quintett is dedicated to the swingin´ sound of the 30s and 40s. With the big classics
from the bandbooks of the small groups of Benny Goodmann, Coleman Hawkins and
Count Basie they invite their audience to fill the dancefloor all night long!

JIVERS
Jivers is a four-piece band with a specific Jazz repertoire: vocal Swing of the thirties and forties. Mainly inspired in bands like The Mills Brothers, The Andrews Sisters and The Boswell Sisters, they adapt original arrangements to their instrumentation. Other times they create their own arrangements for not so traditional songs emphasizing in a close three part harmony and imitating instruments with their voices. The rhythm section consists of a guitar and a snare drum complemented with a typical traditional 20s Jazz formation: a tuba, a banjo and a washboard. The rest of the traditional Jazz instruments - like the trumpet, the clarinet or the trombone - are imitated by the singers with their own voice, which is an emblematic resource of this type of vocal formations. Alongside the growing Swing dance scene in Argentina - with expressions like the Lindy Hop and the Charleston - Jivers conceive this style as a "social dance music", unlike the more modern and intellectual jazz that emerged at the Be Bop era.

Radtour mit Tanzeinlagen. 

Zu Beginn um 14 Uhr gibt´s einen Beginner-Schnupperkurs von Sunny Side Swing. Danach radeln wir kollektiv mit dem Musik-Bike von Frank Patitz zum Tanzen an schöne Plätze Darmstadts. 

Die Teilnahme an der Tour ist kostenlos, Spenden sind herzlich willkommen!

Tour:
14 bis 15 Uhr: Start auf dem Hiroshima-Nagasaki-Platz hinter dem darmstadtium mit Lindyhop-Schnupperkurs mit sunnysideswing

This year we will have the wonderful Katrin Kügler und Jesús Serrano Piqueras from Swingtimes Cologne giving the taster. Katrin used to live in Bad Kreuznach so she has a very special connection to the city and bring back some Cologne-spirit to the evening

The Jazz Sextet reminds us of the good old 30s and 40s, while bringing the fresh
taste of the band’s arrangers to live. Between Jam Band and Big Band, pentatonic
and tritone, straight-ahead and two-beat, a mixture of “pre-owned music”, highly
inspired by Count Basie with surprising turns and original compositions. Relaxed
grooves, for those who enjoy mid-tempo Lindy and outbursts of fast tempi for Balboa
